You're going to feel one of two things by the end of this post:

How can I tell which device I have?

On a Mac...

  • Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your desktop toolbar

  • Select About this Mac

  • In the pop-up window, refer to your computer's model under the graphic and the Chip (if it's M1 or above, you're in the clear).

On an iPhone or iPad

  • Open the Settings app on your device

  • Select General

  • Select About

  • Refer to the iOS Version and Model Name

Is Apple Intelligence worth upgrading my phone?

It's too early to tell at this point. A ton of perks come with an AI built into the Apple ecosystem, such as connecting to apps like Reminders, iMessage, and your Siri assistant (to name a few). But if you're relying on third-party generative AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot, you'll still benefit from them, but you'll have to leave aside the perks that would otherwise be built into your device for now. This is just the beginning of Apple Intelligence, so you'll likely see major improvements over time. So, when it's time for your upgrade, you'll have a much more refined product (fingers crossed 🤞).
